Advances in Marine Research, Sustainable Oceans and Coastal Systems

Aim and Scope

Advances in Marine Research, Sustainable Oceans and Coastal Systems publishes peer-reviewed studies that address scientific, technical, and policy aspects of marine and coastal environments. The journal emphasises research that contributes to the sustainability and resilience of ocean systems under changing environmental and human conditions.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Marine Ecology and Biodiversity: Community structure, species interactions, ecosystem dynamics, and conservation of marine habitats including coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves, and deep-sea environments.
  • Fisheries and Aquatic Resources: Population dynamics, fish stock assessment, sustainable harvesting practices, aquaculture systems, and fisheries governance.
  • Coastal Processes and Hazards: Shoreline erosion, sediment transport, sea-level rise, tsunami modelling, and coastal risk mitigation.
  • Marine Pollution and Ocean Health: Studies on plastic pollution, oil spills, nutrient loading, marine toxins, and the ecological effects of pollution on biota and habitats.
  • Oceanography and Climate: Physical and chemical oceanography, ocean currents, upwelling systems, ocean-atmosphere coupling, and climate variability.
  • Marine Technology and Observation Systems: Development and application of remote sensing tools, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), sensor networks, and oceanographic instrumentation.
  • Governance, Law, and Marine Policy: Marine protected areas (MPAs), coastal planning, environmental impact assessment, transboundary resource management, and community-based conservation.
  • Blue Economy and Coastal Societies: Economic valuation of ecosystem services, sustainable tourism, livelihoods, and indigenous and local knowledge systems.

We encourage interdisciplinary research and integrated assessments that link ecological conditions with social and economic factors. The journal accepts both hypothesis-driven and solution-oriented studies, as well as those that provide frameworks for monitoring, adaptation, and restoration.

All submissions undergo rigorous peer review, and accepted papers are made freely available under the journal’s open-access policy. Our aim is to support the scientific community and decision-makers working to improve marine resource use and ocean health worldwide.
