Emergence of the Influence of YouTube Journalism & Citizen Journalism across the Mass Media Platforms

This paper aims to assess the impact of YouTube Journalism & Citizen Journalism across the mass media platforms, specifically evaluating the opportunities and challenges it presents today to the traditional media or mainstream media. Since its establishment in 2005, YouTube has evolved from a platform for sharing personal videos to a significant medium for broadcasting news content.
This platform represents a departure from traditional journalism, which often functioned as a one-way communication channel through newspapers, radio, or Television. Instead, YouTube fosters an interactive environment where viewers are not merely passive recipients but active participants, thereby enhancing the democratic nature of media consumption. The emphasis has shifted from prominent figures in journalism to the audience, who now play a crucial role as collaborators. YouTube facilitates audience engagement, allowing for mutual growth and the utilization of user-generated content. In discussions surrounding freedom of expression, it is essential to also consider ethical standards and regulatory measures. The rise of citizen journalism has become a prominent topic in contemporary discourse. In nutshell, it is found that YouTube journalism has become a significant influence within the media landscape, transforming the methods by which news is reported and consumed. The emergence of citizen journalists and independent content creators has intensified competition for traditional news organizations, as these individuals utilize the platform to disseminate news, provide commentary, and conduct investigative reporting also.
The advent of smartphones, computers, smart camera, emerging of research and new communication technologies, interactive media tools, opportunities of self-expression, freedom of speech, role of educational institutions, digital literacy and technical enhancement have influenced the YouTube Journalism & Citizen Journalism across the mass media platforms.
