Biography

Lecturer Dr. Eng. Iulian-Sorin Munteanu currently teaches within the Theory of Mechanisms and Robots Department, Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Robotics, POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest. He also holds the position of Scientific Researcher Grade II and has over 25 years of experience in mechatronics, robotics, and applied experimental engineering. His academic and research activity is reflected through internationally recognized scientometric profiles, including Web of Science (Clarivate ResearcherID), Scopus, and ORCID. According to Clarivate, he holds an H-index of 4 and has conducted over 20 verified peer reviews for international journals. He is currently serving as a Special Issue Editor for the journal Technologies (Q1 ? MDPI, since 2025), focusing on AI, autonomous systems, and intelligent technologies: https://www.mdpi.com/journal/technologies/special_issues/WIWV1T39PS He is currently Vice-Chair of the International Conference on Advanced Autonomous Systems ? ICAAS 2026 ? 3rd edition, Bucharest and actively contributes to the scientific development and international promotion of the conference (https://tmr.upb.ro/conferinta), encouraging submissions and collaboration within the academic, research community and doctoral students or/ and Master?s students. Within the university, he is course holder for several technical disciplines, including: Mechatronics, Evaluation of Mechanical Systems Performance, Actuation Techniques for Mobile Mechanisms, Mechanisms, Machine Elements and Mechanisms, and Non-Implantable Medical Devices. His teaching approach integrates applied research results, virtual simulations, and experimental laboratory work. He is also the author of academic textbooks and technical teaching materials in mechatronics, intelligent systems, and medical devices. He previously worked as a Senior Scientific Researcher II at the National R&D Institute for Mechatronics and Measurement Techniques (INCDMTM), contributing to the development of applied mechatronic systems and experimental technologies. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics in 1999, obtained a Master?s degree in Engineering Systems for Precision Mechanics in 2000, and earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2010. Dr. Munteanu has participated in more than 40 national and institutional R&D projects and is the holder of 7 invention patents. His technical innovations have been internationally recognized through numerous awards at invention exhibitions, including multiple gold and silver medals and diplomas. These distinctions highlight the practical applicability and originality of his research in mechatronics, instrumentation, and intelligent mechanical systems. In 2007, he coordinated the first Romanian Occupational Standard for Mechatronics Technician. He also founded the CFE-MECATRON professional training center, where he worked as Trainer and Evaluator, and between 2008 and 2020 served as Secretary General of the R&D Section of the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Since 2019, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of APROMECA, President of the Mechatronics Circle within AGIR, and Executive Director of the MECHATREC Cluster - starting with 2025, supporting collaboration between academia, research institutions, and industry. He has served as Guest Editor (2025) for the Q1 journal Technologies (MDPI), Co-Chair of ICAAS 2024?2025, and reviewer for multiple international journals indexed in Web of Science. Dr. Ing. Research Interest

My research interests include: mechatronics, robotics, intelligent actuation systems, autonomous systems and artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, biomechatronics, pneumatics, measurement and control instrumentation, sensor systems, medical devices and equipment, nano- and functional materials, micro- and nano-scale characterization techniques, experimental mechanical systems, and technology transfer toward Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0 applications.
