Biography

Dr. Laishram Shantikumar Singh holds graduate and post graduate degree in Microbiology from Bangalore University, Bengaluru, India. He received PhD degree in Applied Microbiology from Dibrugarh University, Assam, through research at CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, Assam, India and did Post-Doctoral Research Work at University School of Biotechnology, Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi, India. Presently Dr. Laishram is serving as Associate Professor (Microbiology) at Assam Down Town University, Guwahati, Assam, India. Prior to that he worked as Scientist (Microbial Biotechnology & Bioprospecting) at Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Sikkim Centre, DBT, Govt. of India, Gangtok, Sikkim, India. He had served as Advisor Microbiologist & Assistant Manager Research & Development in corporate R & D sectors of Tata Tea Research Centre (APPL), Teok, Jorhat, Assam. He had served as faculty of science at Brindavan College, Bangalore University, Bengaluru. Dr. Laishram had also been a visiting faculty at College of Agricultural Engineering & Post Harvest Technology (CAEPHT), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Ranipool, Gangtok, Sikkim, India. He has been awarded JRF and SRF Fellowship by DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, New Delhi for research. He has received several awards and recognitions for his academic and research achievements, including Group Technology Award 2009 by DRL, DRDO, Best Poster Award for DBT funded Project work, Certificate of Recognition by Society for Ethnopharmacology, India in Feb 2020, Academic Excellence Award by PG Dept. of Microbiology, NFG College, Bangalore University. He has worked in many in-house & external projects funded by DRDO, MoEF, Govt, of India. He has also received external research grants from DBT for projects and worked as PI as well as Co-PI. Provided Technical support to Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Sikkim in the field work of DBT sponsored project. He has published more than 35 research papers in National and International peer reviewed Journals and book chapters and presented 25 research articles in National and International conferences/seminars. He has published 18 research data (nucleotide sequences) in NCBI Genbank database. He has delivered 8 Invited Talks as Resource Person in conferences & workshops. Dr. Laishram worked as Core member in the formulation of product “Herbal Floor cleaner” developed by DRL, DRDO Tezpur, Assam, India. Many students have carried out M.Sc. dissertation projects as well as summer trainings under his guidance. He serves as a reviewer for many reputed journals. He is also the Managing Editor of special Issue of frontiers in Biosciences 2021, as well as editorial member of many journals. Dr. Laishram have been fully instrumental and involved in the infrastructure development of the Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology Laboratory of the IBSD, Sikkim centre (DBT) at Gangtok, Sikkim, India. At present 6 PhD students are carrying out research under his supervision. Dr. Laishram had been member of different internal as well as external committee of his previous institute.
