Thyroid Diseases
Thyroid disease is a condition that effects on thyroid gland function. Several disorders can arise when thyroid hormone does not produce properly. Thyroid disease is categorised into five types based on the production of Hormone.
1) Hypothyroidism: Caused by not producing enough thyroid hormone this causes low function.
2) Hyperthyroidism: Caused by producing high amount of thyroid hormone this causes high in function.
3) Goiter: A goiter, associated with hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, may be present with symptoms of the disorder.
4) Tumors: Tumors can be benign (not cancerous) or cancerous.
5) Abnormal thyroid function tests without any clinical symptoms (subclinical hypothyroidism or subclinical hyperthyroidism).
Symptoms of this condition vary with type: hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. Diagnosis of thyroid disease depends on symptoms. Several medications are available with the type of disease diagnosed. Thyroid surgery may also perform for a number of reasons.
